Located in the tight urban context of London E10, the Leyton Green Project provided a unique opportunity to deliver facilities for social care, therapy, education and housing. Led jointly by three Local Authority departments the project enables therapeutic interventions for children and young people with significant social, emotional and behaviour and health needs, extending the scope and provision of the existing Belmont Park School.
An initial feasibility development plan highlighted opportunities for removal of redundant buildings, unlocking the potential of the site to provide a new therapy centre with counselling rooms, a respite centre, a vocational training facility and new drama, sports and music facilities for Belmont Park School.
The new buildings have been designed to respect and enhance the existing character of the wider site and are provided with low carbon technology in the form of mechanical ventilation heat recovery, photo-voltaic panels and high levels of insulation to the building fabric.
