We are proud to announce the completion of a highly sensitive and meaningful project at William Harvey Hospital in Ashford – the new Maternity Bereavement Suite, handed over in May 2025.

Appointed by 2gether Support Solutions Ltd, HMY were engaged to design a dedicated space for bereaved parents, creating an environment that supports privacy, dignity and compassion during the most challenging of times. Working within the existing maternity ward, the project involved the refurbishment of two former induction rooms, transforming them into a calm and supportive suite that offers parents the opportunity to spend uninterrupted time with their baby following pregnancy loss.

The suite now comprises a birthing room, induction room, ensuite shower facilities, and discreet storage areas, all designed with a clear focus on comfort and function. From the outset, the vision was to move away from the clinical aesthetic typically associated with hospital environments. Instead, the design introduces warm, domestic style finishes and layouts to create a space that feels safe, comforting and more like home.

A key element of the interior scheme is the use of Altro Digiclad artwork, which has been sensitively selected to introduce soft, calming visuals throughout the suite, helping to foster a peaceful and reflective atmosphere.

Delivered on a short programme within a live clinical setting, the project required detailed coordination and close communication with the client team and contractors. Clear planning, adaptability, and timely decision-making were all vital in ensuring the project remained on track and was delivered to the highest possible standard.

We would like to thank our collaborative project team for their dedication and expertise throughout the process. This included Bauvill Contractors, Cloakes Ltd Electrical, 24Seven Limited, Stirling Medical and Total Laminate Systems.
This project has been a privilege to work on, and we are honoured to have played a role in supporting the provision of bereavement care at William Harvey Hospital. We hope that this new space offers comfort and support to many families for years to come.
